Hakkaisan Sparkling Nigori Sake - 720 ml

Introduction

Hakkaisan Sparkling Nigori originates from Minamiuonuma City in the Niigata Prefecture of Japan. Hakkaisan Brewery was founded in 1922 and is situated at the foot of Mount Hakkai, which provides the 'Raiden-sama no Shimizu' spring water used in all aspects of production. The brewery was established by Koichi Nagumo and has been managed by the Nagumo family for several generations, with Masato Nagumo appointed as the current President and CEO in 2025.

Description

This premium Junmai Nigori is bottle fermented to create a natural, sophisticated effervescence. It presents a lightly cloudy appearance with gentle bubbles and an aromatic profile featuring subtle notes of dairy, pineapple, lychee, and tropical fruits. On the palate, it offers a round and creamy mouthfeel balanced by a bright, refreshing acidity and a light sweetness. The finish is clean and layered, showcasing the 'tanrei' (crisp and dry) style for which the brewery is famous. It has an alcohol content of approximately 14.5% to 15%.

Food Pairing

The creamy texture and sparkling nature of this nigori make it an excellent aperitif or an accompaniment to a variety of cuisines. It pairs exceptionally well with rich or spicy dishes, such as Thai curry or tom kha gai, where the bubbles and sweetness help balance the heat. Its acidity also complements fresh seafood like raw oysters, yuzu marinated salmon sashimi, and fatty fish rolls. For a dessert match, try serving it well chilled alongside fresh fruits or creamy grazing platters to highlight its subtle fruit notes.
