Solaia 2016 (by Tenuta Tignanello)
Solaia 2016 is a celebrated Super Tuscan produced at Tenuta Tignanello, part of the historic Antinori estate in Tuscany. The wine hails from the sunniest hillside known as the Solaia vineyard, characterised by limestone and schist-rich soils, ideal southwestern exposure, and elevation around 350–400 metres. The Antinori family has crafted this iconic bottling only in exceptional vintages since 1978.
Wine Description
This vintage is a bold and structured blend comprising approximately 73 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon, 20 per cent Sangiovese, and 7 per cent Cabernet Franc, matured for around 18 months in French oak barrels. It presents an intense ruby-red colour. The nose offers profound depth—ripe blackberry, plum jam, espresso, menthol, and licorice mingle with balsamic herbal undertones and spicy hints of white pepper. The palate is powerful yet refined, with silky, structured tannins, expressive dark fruit, mineral notes of campfire ash and graphite, and a vibrant, eternally lingering finish. Overall, the 2016 is considered both chiseled and elegant, deep yet light on its feet.
