Masseto 2021 - 1.5 Litre Bottle

Masseto 2021 is a monumental red wine from the Bolgheri region on the Tuscan Coast of Italy. Produced from a single seven-hectare vineyard on Masseto Hill, the estate is owned by the Frescobaldi family and is world-renowned for its unique blue clay soils, which are ideal for the cultivation of Merlot. The winemaking philosophy centers on minimal intervention and gravity-flow technology to capture the pure essence of this singular terroir.

Wine Description

This vintage marks a return to the classic 100% Merlot composition, moving away from the small inclusion of Cabernet Franc used in the 2019 and 2020 vintages. It presents a youthful magenta or dark purple hue and offers a complex bouquet of blueberries, blackberries, and black olives, layered with violets, dark chocolate, and Mediterranean herbs like sage and rosemary. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and powerful yet remarkably refined, displaying a silky texture, vibrant acidity, and ultra-fine, polished tannins. It was aged for 24 months in 100% new French oak. The optimal drinking window for this vintage is estimated to be between 2027 and 2056, with the 1.5-litre magnum format providing even greater potential for slow, graceful aging.
