Chateau Pontet Canet 2016
Introduction
Château Pontet Canet 2016 is a red wine from France, produced in the Bordeaux region and the Pauillac appellation. Château Pontet Canet is a highly renowned estate classified as a Cinquième Cru Classé (Fifth Growth) in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. Under the ownership of the Tesseron family, the winery has become one of Bordeaux's leading estates, pioneering the use of biodynamic farming since the early 2000s. The winery's philosophy is centred on a deeply personal connection to the terroir, expressed through natural, minimal intervention viticulture and winemaking.
Wine Description
The wine has a deep, dense, inky purple colour. The aromatic profile is complex and profound, offering scents of crushed blackcurrant, black cherry, dried violets, and cedar. Further nuances include graphite, licorice, wood smoke, and an unmistakable purity of fruit.
The varietal composition is a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. It is a full-bodied wine. The palate is rich, powerful, and concentrated, yet impeccably balanced and elegant. The mouthfeel is smooth and velvety, guided by wonderfully refined, lush tannins. Stylistically, it is a magnificent, profound wine that showcases the purity and textural excellence achieved through biodynamic farming. The wine was aged for 16 to 18 months, with 50% in new French oak barrels and 35% in concrete amphorae. The finish is incredibly long, fragrant, and pure. The ABV is 13.5%. The optimal drinking window is to drink now through 2050. The vineyard is certified organic (Ecocert) and biodynamic (Demeter).
