Yellow Rose Straight Rye
Introduction
Yellow Rose Straight Rye is a premium spirit from the United States, specifically associated with Houston, Texas. Founded in 2010 by neighbors Ryan Baird, Troy Smith, and Randy Whitaker, Yellow Rose Distilling holds the distinction of being the first legal whiskey distillery in the city of Houston. In 2017, the distillery was acquired by the Zamora Company, a family owned Spanish drinks business, which has since worked to expand the brand's presence on a global scale. The 'Yellow Rose' name pays homage to the legendary Emily West Morgan, a folk hero whose bravery is credited with helping Texas secure its independence in 1836.
Spirit Description
This straight rye is a small batch production created to emulate the flavour profile of American rye whiskies from the pre prohibition era. It is produced with a high rye mash bill consisting of 95% rye and 5% malted barley. While matured in the hot and humid climate of Houston to accelerate the aging process, this specific expression is a sourced whiskey that is hand selected, blended, and bottled at the Texas facility.
Colour: The spirit displays a liquid copper or deep golden amber hue.
Aroma: The nose is mild and sweet, featuring scents of vanilla, pine, and brown sugar alongside herbal notes of fresh mint and caramel.
Palate: It offers a slightly sweet and refreshing palate with primary flavours of spearmint, mild pepper, and maple. Secondary notes include honey, red apple skin, and a touch of peppery heat.
Body: The whiskey possesses a medium body with a creamy and velvety mouthfeel.
Finish: It concludes with a medium finish that is notably less peppery than typical rye whiskies, leaving behind gentle fragrant spice and a hint of oak.
ABV: Yellow Rose Straight Rye is bottled at 45%.
