Vina Cobos Cabernet Sauvignon 'Marchiori Estate' 2018

Viña Cobos Cabernet Sauvignon Marchiori Estate 2018 originates from Argentina, specifically from the Perdriel district within the Luján de Cuyo region of Mendoza. This winery was founded more than 25 years ago by American winemaker Paul Hobbs, who sought to explore the various terroirs of Mendoza and position Argentine wines on the international stage. The winery follows a philosophy of precision viticulture and minimal intervention, aiming to produce authentic expressions of the land through meticulous vineyard management and careful treatment of the fruit.

Wine Description

This Cabernet Sauvignon displays an intense red colour with violet and black tones. The aromatic profile is complex and elegant, featuring notes of red fruits, cassis, and plums, interwoven with scents of black tea, violets, spices, and blonde tobacco. On the palate, it is full bodied and fleshy, repeating the aromatic complexity with flavours of ripe cassis, star anise, and toasted oak. The structure is defined by firm yet supple tannins and a notable mineral character, leading to a long and lingering finish. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon varietal has an ABV of 14.6% and is produced using sustainable farming methods. The wine is not certified organic.

Food Pairing

The robust tannins and rich dark fruit profile of this wine make it a classic partner for hearty red meat dishes. Suggested pairings include grilled ribeye or tomahawk steak, roasted lamb chops with rosemary, and gourmet burgers. It also complements savoury vegetarian options such as grilled portobello mushrooms, creamy mushroom risotto, or eggplant parmesan. For a cheese course, hard varieties like aged cheddar, gorgonzola, or gouda provide an excellent balance to the wine's intensity.

Vintage Quality

The 2018 vintage in Mendoza is considered exceptional, marked by consistent sunny days and cool nights that provided ideal conditions for a top-notch harvest. Although some higher-altitude vineyards faced small pockets of spring frost that lowered yields, the overall harvest returned to normal volumes of healthy grapes with excellent quality and concentration. Winemakers demonstrated great skill in managing these conditions, resulting in red wines with spectacular balance between acidity and ripeness.
