The Glenturret Triple Wood Single Malt Whisky

Introduction

The Glenturret Triple Wood is a premium Highland single malt Scotch whisky produced at Scotland's oldest working distillery, located in Crieff. Officially established in 1763, though with roots in illicit distilling dating back to 1717, the distillery has a storied history of ownership including the Drummond family, Remy Cointreau, and the Edrington Group. Since 2019, the distillery has been owned by the Lalique Group, a renowned luxury jewellery and crystal company, which shifted the focus toward boutique single malt releases. While the "Triple Wood" expression itself is a no-age-statement (NAS) whisky released annually, it sits as the entry point alongside the core 12 Year Old expression in the distillery's modern range.

Spirit Description

The Triple Wood is crafted by maturing the distillery's fruit-forward new make spirit in a combination of three distinct cask types: American oak sherry-seasoned casks, European oak sherry-seasoned casks, and American oak Bourbon barrels.

  • Colour: It presents a natural golden hue, often described as bright or pale straw.

  • Aroma: The nose is inviting and layered, featuring notes of custard cream, dried fruits, and wood spices, complemented by an intriguing tropical fruit aroma and hints of vanilla.

  • Palate: It offers a mellow and sweet profile with initial malty notes followed by refreshing citrus. Flavours of cinnamon, toffee, and a "wild fruit mix" provide a dynamic character with a slight spicy oak tingle.

  • Body: The whisky is medium-bodied and supple, known for its well-rounded and balanced texture.

  • Finish: It concludes with a long finish marked by solid oak notes, light ginger spiciness, and a lingering balance of honeyed maltiness.

  • ABV: The Glenturret Triple Wood is bottled at 44%.
