Tenuta di Vignole 'Crespine' Gran Selezione 2013
Introduction
This Gran Selezione red wine originates from Italy, specifically the Tuscany region, within the Chianti Classico DOCG appellation, near the town of Panzano in Chianti. Tenuta di Vignole is a Chianti Classico specialist situated in the heart of the region, known as the Conca d'Oro (the Golden Basin), an area famous for its prestigious wines. The winery is committed to producing high-quality Sangiovese, with all grapes grown in the estate's own vineyards.
Wine Description
The 'Crespine' Gran Selezione 2013 is a powerful and concentrated expression of Chianti Classico. It presents an intense colour, with a vivid ruby red that has slightly orange reflections after aging. The wine is made primarily from Sangiovese (100% or sometimes including 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, depending on the source). The nose reveals spicy aromas and hints of black cherries and blackberries, with tertiary notes developing with age. Some tasting notes for the 2013 vintage describe a floral opening of rose and lilac, followed by notes of citrus and undried spices. The wine is velvety, full-bodied, and warm on the palate, with well-integrated, yet still present, tannins. The 2013 is noted for its bright acidity and a long, persistent, and satisfying finish with a sweet aftertaste. It is made from a selection of the best Sangiovese grapes, which are handpicked and fermented in tonneaux (large barrels). The malolactic fermentation and aging for more than 30 months took place in small 225-litre barriques.
