Tenuta Belguardo 2019

This concentrated and 'seducing' red wine originates from Italy, specifically from the Maremma Toscana subregion in the southern part of Tuscany. Purchased by the Marchesi Mazzei family in the 1990s, Tenuta Belguardo is situated in the hills between Grosseto and Montiano, near the Tyrrhenian Sea. The Mazzei family, a historic dynasty producing wine since 1435, selected this estate for its stony, calcareous soil and Mediterranean climate, which they believe is the 'new frontier' for high-quality viticulture. Their winemaking philosophy focuses on enhancing natural terroir through customized organic practices and biodiversity preservation.

Wine Description

The 2019 Tenuta Belguardo (the estate's flagship Rosso I.G.T.) presents a dark ruby colour with intense violet reflections. The sensory profile is remarkably complex and multi-layered, featuring a nose of overripe blackberries, raspberry jam, and eucalyptus, underpinned by exotic notes and damp forest soil. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and 'enveloping', showcasing a core of blackcurrant, plum, and herbal spices with a distinct touch of graphite. It is characterized by fine-grained, ripe tannins and a fresh, mineral finish that adds depth without being dominated by its oak maturation. This blend consists of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc, typically reaching an alcohol content (ABV) of 13.5% to 14%. The wine was matured for 18 months in small French oak barrels (70% new) and finished for 4 months in concrete tanks.
