Castello Del Terriccio Tassinaia 2021

Introduction

This red wine originates from Italy, specifically from the northern Maremma area of the Tuscany region in Castellina Marittima. Castello del Terriccio is one of the largest and most historic estates in the area, with roots stretching back to the Etruscan era and a winemaking history spanning millennia. Under the leadership of the late Dr. Gian Annibale Rossi di Medelana, the estate achieved international fame by drawing inspiration from the success of great Bordeaux blends on the Tuscan coast. The winery's philosophy is based on respecting the natural ecosystem and enhancing the unique terroir, which is characterized by mineral-rich soils and the cooling influence of Tyrrhenian Sea breezes.

Wine Description

Castello del Terriccio Tassinaia 2021 displays an intense and luminous ruby red colour. The nose offers a broad and complex bouquet with notes of blackberry, blackcurrant, cherry, and plum, enriched by scents of Mediterranean scrub, lavender, and sweet spices such as cocoa and vanilla. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, rich, and enveloping, featuring flavours of small forest berries and a pleasant freshness. It is characterized by its elegant structure, featuring well-integrated tannins and a mineral vein that leads to a long and persistent finish. This blend is composed of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon (50%) and Merlot (50%). The wine was aged separately by variety in second and third passage French oak tonneaux for 16 months, followed by an additional year of resting in the bottle. The ABV is 14.5%. While the estate follows sustainable cultivation methods, this wine is not certified organic. The optimal drinking window is from 2025 through 2033.
