Tamdhu Batch Strength 008 Single Malt Scotch Whisky - 700 ml
Tamdhu Batch Strength 008 is the eighth installment in the award-winning cask-strength series from this Speyside distillery. True to the brand's "Only the Best" philosophy, this release is matured exclusively in Oloroso sherry-seasoned oak casks from the bodegas of Jerez, Spain, with a high proportion being first-fill casks. Launched in late 2023, Batch 008 is designed to showcase the more intense, high-voltage side of Tamdhu's typically elegant profile, offering a natural copper hue and a rich, unfiltered texture.
Spirit Description
The whisky is bottled at a potent 55.8% ABV and is non-chill filtered with no added color.
Nose: It opens with warm, aromatic notes of Spanish oak, creamy vanilla, and honeycomb. Beneath the sweetness, there are layers of toasted nuts, red berries, and "high-pitched" notes of citrus zest and herbal mint.
Palate: The entry is sharp and vibrant, featuring summer berries and pomegranates. As it develops, the mouthfeel becomes velvety and rich, revealing flavors of candied lemon peel, milk chocolate, and gingerbread, balanced by a mounting wave of oak spice and cinnamon.
Finish: Long and evolving. It transitions from spicy orange tea and baked figs to a softer, malty conclusion with lingering hints of freshly peeled clementine and toffee. Adding a splash of water is highly recommended; it tames the initial alcohol heat and allows the more delicate notes of apricot and marzipan to bloom.
Part of a 2023 "hat-trick" of awards for Tamdhu at the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival.
Food Pairing
The "sherry bomb" nature of this whisky allows it to pair beautifully with rich, fatty, and highly seasoned foods.
Savory: It is a perfect match for smoked brisket or duck confit, where the high ABV cuts through the fat and the sherry notes complement the savory meat.
Cheese: Pair it with creamy blue cheese (like Stilton or Roquefort) or an extra-aged Gouda. The saltiness of the cheese provides a stark, delightful contrast to the whisky's honey and vanilla profile.
Dessert: Its toffee and spice notes make it a natural companion for dark chocolate brownies, pecan pie, or Christmas pudding served with brandy butter.
Snacks: Try it with roasted walnuts or almonds to draw out the Spanish oak influence.
