Speyburn Single Malt 10 Year Old
Speyburn Single Malt 10 Year Old is produced in Scotland, within the Speyside region at the northern end of Rothes. The distillery was founded in 1897 by John Hopkins, who famously rushed to produce the first cask of spirit in a violent snowstorm on New Year's Eve to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. Designed by the legendary architect Charles C. Doig, the distillery is noted for its iconic pagoda roof and its unique multi-level design carved into the hillside. It is currently the only distillery to draw its water from the Granty Burn, a major tributary of the River Spey.
Spirit Description
This flagship expression is matured for at least 10 years in a combination of hand-selected American oak ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. It presents a pale gold colour with amber highlights. The nose is fresh, clean, and aromatic, featuring zesty lemon, orange peel, and red apple, accompanied by delicate hints of cinnamon and floral heather. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and smooth, offering a delicate fruity character with layers of sweet toffee, butterscotch, and fresh apple pie. The body is soft and well-balanced, leading to a long, sweet finish marked by citrus, creamy toffee, and a lingering touch of barley. Speyburn 10 Year Old is typically bottled at an ABV of 40%.
