Shafer Chardonnay Red Shoulder 2024

Produced in the United States, this Chardonnay hails from the prestigious Red Shoulder Ranch estate vineyard located in the Carneros District of Napa Valley. Shafer Vineyards has been a cornerstone of Napa Valley for over 40 years, established in 1972 by John Shafer who transitioned from a publishing career to viticulture. The winery is celebrated for its commitment to sustainability, having been the first in the U.S. to go 100% solar, and is currently led by the long standing team of Doug Shafer and winemaker Elias Fernandez.

Wine Description

This luminous Chardonnay presents a brilliant straw yellow colour and opens with elegant aromas of citrus blossom, honeysuckle, and exotic spice. The palate is midweight and textural, offering a core of ripe fruit including nectarine, mandarin orange, and honeydew melon, balanced by a flinty minerality. With a focus on energy and finesse, the wine features a vibrant 'laser beam' of acidity and a lithe structure that leads to a long, pure, and refined finish.

Accolades

  • James Suckling - 95 points.

  • Vinous - 94 points.

  • Wine Spectator - 93 points.

  • Jeb Dunnuck - 93 points.

Food Pairing

The vibrant acidity and flinty minerality of this Chardonnay make it an ideal companion for seared scallops, lobster, or Dungeness crab cakes. Its textural richness also allows it to pair beautifully with herb roasted chicken, creamy pasta dishes like fettuccine Alfredo, or soft cheeses such as Brie and triple cream.
