Scarpetta Pinot Grigio 2024

Scarpetta Pinot Grigio originates from Italy, within the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. Established in 2007 by Master Sommelier Bobby Stuckey and Chef Lachlan Mackinnon-Patterson, the winery was born from a desire to celebrate the food and wine culture of Friuli. Their winemaking philosophy focuses on showcasing the best of the region by sourcing fruit from light, gravelly soils in the Grave region for minerality, as well as steep hillsides in the Colli Orientali for body and acidity.

Wine Description

This white wine presents a light straw colour with just a hint of salmon. The sensory profile features an aromatic nose of stone fruits and melon, accented by floral notes of acacia, lavender, and white flowers, as well as hints of honey. On the medium-bodied palate, it is light on its feet yet complex, delivering crisp and dry flavours of pear, lemon, and green apple supported by veins of minerality and bright acidity. The finish is clean, zesty, and refreshing.

  • Varietal Composition: 100% Pinot Grigio.

  • Stylistic Notes: The wine is celebrated for its balanced freshness and vibrant character; it is fermented in stainless steel after 12 hours of skin contact and aged for six months on its lees to enhance its aromatic clarity and texture.

  • ABV: Typically recorded between 12% and 12.5%.

  • Organic Status: While the winery focuses on meticulous craftsmanship and high-quality vineyard sites, this specific bottling is not certified organic.

Food Pairing

The versatility and crisp minerality of Scarpetta Pinot Grigio make it an excellent partner for a wide range of light and fresh dishes.

  • Seafood: Pairs exceptionally well with light grilled fish, sashimi, pesce crudo, ceviche, and seafood risotto or spaghetti.

  • Light Fare: An ideal aperitivo on its own, it also complements fresh salads, vegetable-based pasta, and light poultry dishes.

  • Cheese: Suggested pairings include lighter varieties like mozzarella, ricotta, mascarpone, or gruyere.
