Romain Duvernay Rasteau

Introduction

This red wine originates from France, specifically from the Rasteau subregion in the Southern Rhône Valley. Romain Duvernay is a talented oenologist who established his merchant business, NewRhône Millésimes, in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in 1998 alongside his father, Roland. The winery's philosophy is rooted in a deep respect for environmental traditions, focusing on 'reasoned viticulture' and working closely with local growers to select grapes at their optimal maturity. Previously a supplier to prestigious houses such as Guigal, Duvernay began producing wines under his own signature in 2010 to showcase the unique personality of the Rhône's premier appellations.

Wine Description

The Romain Duvernay Rasteau displays a bright and deep red colour. The nose is rich and expressive, offering scents of very ripe black fruits, such as blackberry and cassis, alongside harmonious notes of prune, vanilla, and pepper. On the palate, the wine is powerful, voluminous, and supple, delivering concentrated dark fruit flavours integrated with fine, tight tannins and a velvety texture. It is characterized by its significant body and a long, lingering finish that often reveals liquorice and spicy undertones. This varietal composition typically consists of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre. The ABV is notably high, ranging from 15% to 15.5%. While not always certified organic, the producer increasingly prioritizes organic and High Environmental Value (HVE) labelled estates. The optimal drinking window is between 2023 and 2027, though it possesses an ageing potential of 10 to 15 years.
