Raventos Blanc de Blancs Brut 2023
Introduction
This sparkling wine originates from Spain, specifically from the Conca del Riu Anoia subregion within the Penedes region of Catalonia. The Raventos i Blanc estate has a documented winemaking history dating back to 1497, representing one of the longest family-owned viticultural traditions in Europe. In 1872, Josep Raventos Fatjo produced Spain's first traditional method sparkling wine on this estate, and in 2012, the family made the decision to leave the Cava DO to focus on their unique terroir. The winery's philosophy is centred on biodynamic viticulture and a deep commitment to maintaining a self-sufficient ecosystem where nature and man work in synchrony.
Wine Description
The Raventos i Blanc Blanc de Blancs Brut displays a pale and bright colour, often featuring youthful green tints. The nose is fresh and mineral-inflected, offering a Mediterranean bouquet of green apple, citrus, fennel, and aromatic herbs, with subtle hints of brioche and honey. On the palate, the wine is clean and structured, delivering a spark of freshness with a lacy texture and fine bubbles. It is characterized by its tension and balance, presenting flavours of stone fruit and lemon curd underscored by a distinct salty or chalky minerality in the finish. This blend typically consists of Xarel-lo, Macabeu, Parellada, and a small percentage of Malvasia de Sitges. The wine is certified biodynamic and organic, matured for a minimum of 18 months on its lees, and generally features an ABV of approximately 12% to 13.5%. The optimal drinking window is upon release, though it gains complexity for up to five years following its vintage date.
