Proprieta Sperino Uvaggio 2020
The Proprietà Sperino winery was re-established in 1999 when Paolo De Marchi, one of Italy’s most respected artisans, and his son Luca returned to their Lessona roots to restore the historic family estate. The Sperino family—an ancient dynasty of medical professionals—was involved in viticulture in the 19th century and were pioneers in bottling and research against Phylloxera. The winery's philosophy is to remain faithful to history by employing traditional methods like spontaneous fermentation in open, wooden fermenters, minimal technological intervention, and avoiding chemical herbicides and artificial fertilisers in the vineyards.
Wine Description
On the nose, it offers a very floral perfume, with lifted aromas that include red/purplish fruit, dried herbs, rose petal, blood orange, mint, and white pepper. The palate is packed with attractive, fresh, and juicy red fruit. Stylistic notes include a seductive simplicity, great texture from its supple, approachable tannins, and well-balanced acidity. It is elegant and approachable, with savoury and mineral notes that extend through the long, vibrant finish. Nebbiolo's characteristic structure is tempered and complemented by the Vespolina and Croatina.
Food Pairing
Suggested pairings for the 'Uvaggio' include traditional Piedmontese dishes. Its refined tannins and savoury notes make it an excellent match for a rich risotto with fresh porcini mushrooms.
