Pio Cesare Barolo 2021

This classic and structured red wine originates from the Barolo DOCG in Piedmont, Italy. Pio Cesare, founded in 1881, is one of the most historic family-owned estates in the region. The winery's philosophy for this signature bottling is to provide a "comprehensive portrait" of the vintage by blending Nebbiolo from various family-owned vineyards across five major communes: Serralunga d’Alba, La Morra, Grinzane Cavour, Monforte d’Alba, and Castiglione Falletto.

Wine Description

The Pio Cesare Barolo 2021 presents a brilliant garnet colour with a ruby core. The sensory profile is exceptionally deep and complex, featuring an aromatic nose of ripe cherry, wild strawberry, and pomegranate, layered with sophisticated notes of black truffles, dried rose petals, graphite, and cedar. On the palate, the wine is powerful and "chewy yet polished," showcasing a dense core of fruit balanced by firm, fine-grained tannins and a vibrant, "glassy" acidity. It is characterized by its remarkable energy and "inner tension," leading to an exceptionally long, mineral-driven finish with hints of iron ore, dried herbs, and terra cotta. This 100% Nebbiolo was aged for three years in oak, with 70% in large Slavonian casks (botti) and 30% in mid-toasted French oak barriques to enhance texture while preserving the purity of the fruit.
