Old Soul Chardonnay 2024

Produced in the United States, this Chardonnay is sourced from the Lodi region within California's Central Valley. The Old Soul label is part of the Oak Ridge Winery portfolio, which is the oldest operating winery in Lodi, originally built in 1934. Owned by the Maggio family since 2002, the winery is led by third-generation patriarch Rudy Maggio and his three daughters, who continue a farming legacy that began when Angelo Maggio planted the family's first Lodi vineyards in 1928.

Wine Description

This Chardonnay presents a brilliant golden straw colour and opens with enticing aromas of lemon meringue, ripe stone fruit, and white peaches. On the palate, it is medium to full bodied and succulent, featuring a 2% splash of Sauvignon Blanc for added vibrancy. Flavours of spiced vanilla custard, grilled pineapple, and apricot are supported by a creamy texture and balanced acidity. The wine is aged for 10 months using a combination of French oak staves and American oak chips, which lends subtle notes of crème brûlée and toasted oak to a long, satisfying finish.

Food Pairing

This Chardonnay pairs exceptionally well with rich seafood such as lobster with drawn butter, pan seared scallops, or grilled salmon. It is also a natural accompaniment to roasted poultry, creamy pasta dishes like fettuccine Alfredo, or butternut squash risotto. For a sweet finish, consider serving it alongside a classic apple pie or creamy desserts.
