Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch 7 is a Campbeltown single malt Scotch whisky produced at the Glengyle Distillery. Released in autumn 2022, it is part of the 'Peat in Progress' series, which showcases the distillery's ongoing development of high-smoke expressions. The Glengyle Distillery has a storied history; it was originally founded in 1872 by William Mitchell, closed in 1925, and was eventually revived in 2004 by the owners of the neighbouring Springbank Distillery. Because rights to the Glengyle name for spirits were held by another party at the time of reopening, the whisky is marketed under the Kilkerran brand.

Spirit Description

This seventh instalment is a fiercely smoky, cask-strength expression created from a marriage of 90% ex-bourbon and 10% ex-sherry casks. It is bottled without artificial colouring or chill filtration.

• Aroma: Fresh and robust, featuring robust peat smoke and a briny sea breeze, reminiscent of pine forest and damp gooseberry bushes.

• Palate: Full-bodied and oily, where the smoke is balanced by a characteristic sweetness found in toasted marshmallows, s'mores, shortbread, and lemon drizzle cake.

• Body: Intense and powerful with a notable maritime character.

• Finish: Long and lingering with a continuation of sweet peat, introducing salty notes of burnt pretzels and fresh green apples.
