Morlet Coeur de Vallee 2019
Morlet Coeur de Vallee 2019 originates from the prestigious Oakville appellation in the heart of Napa Valley, California.
The estate is owned by Luc and Jodie Morlet, who established the winery in 2006 to blend French winemaking heritage with California's unique terroir. Luc Morlet, a fifth generation winemaker from the Champagne region, utilizes a low intervention philosophy and classical Old World techniques learned in Burgundy and Bordeaux. This 2019 release marks the first vintage produced entirely from grapes grown at the family's own estate vineyard, which is situated on an alluvial fan with well drained, gravelly volcanic soils adjacent to the world renowned To Kalon vineyard.
Wine Description
This wine displays a deep, saturated ruby to opaque garnet colour with an inky core. The aromatic profile is intense and multifaceted, featuring layers of warm cassis, blackberry pie, and blueberry preserves interwoven with notes of mocha, graphite, and dried herbs like bay leaf and sage. On the palate, the wine is full bodied and rich, offering a creamy texture and a powerful mid palate filled with crunchy black fruits and juicy blue fruits. It is characterized by its seamless freshness, fine grained, velvety tannins, and a long, mineral laced finish.
Food Pairing
The structured and concentrated nature of this Cabernet blend makes it an ideal companion for high quality, grilled medium rare beef, such as a ribeye or A5 Wagyu. It also pairs exceptionally well with game meats like roasted venison with a huckleberry jus or Colorado lamb served with savory herbs. For a refined vegetarian option, it complements dishes featuring earthy ingredients such as black winter truffles or wild mushroom risotto.
Vintage Quality
The 2019 vintage in Napa Valley is regarded as exceptional, characterized by a long, cool growing season that allowed for gradual sugar accumulation and extended hang times. While late season heat required selective picking, the resulting wines are known for their tremendous concentration, deep fruit profiles, and excellent balance between richness and energy.

"The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Coeur de Vallee is deep garnet-purple colored. It gallops out with expressive notions of warm cassis, blackberry pie, and blueberry preserves, followed by hints of cedar chest, tilled soil, bay leaves, and iron ore. The full-bodied palate is taut, with a nice combination of bright crunchy black fruits and juicy blue fruits, supported by firm, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and mineral-laced. The Coeur de Vallee vineyard is in Oakville, just across the road from To Kalon, and is planted entirely to clone 4 with a small amount of Cabernet Franc (clone 1), which does well on the clay-loam soil. The 2019 blend is 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Cabernet Franc. 1300 cases were made."
