Masciarelli Marina Cvetic Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2018
Introduction
Masciarelli Marina Cvetić Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva 2018 is a powerful and iconic red wine from the Abruzzo region of Italy. Produced from 100% Montepulciano grapes, this bottling represents a more international and stylish interpretation of the variety, often referred to as a 'Super Abruzzo' for its remarkable concentration and modern structure. Founded in 1981 by the late Gianni Masciarelli, the winery is now considered a standard-bearer for the region and remains the only producer in Abruzzo to own estate vineyards across all four of its provinces.
Wine Description
The 2018 vintage displays a deep, dark ruby to luminous garnet colour. The complex sensory profile features seductive aromas of crushed black fruit, steeped dark cherries, and dried rose petals, layered with evocative notes of anise, allspice, and loamy earth. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and opulent, counterbalancing its rich fruit density with a bright core of acidity and refined, medium-grain tannins. This Riserva underwent fermentation in stainless steel followed by 12–18 months of aging in 100% new French oak barriques, adding polished notes of dark chocolate and vanilla to the persistent finish. The optimal drinking window is generally estimated between 2022 and 2030.
