Marcobarba Barbabolla 2022

Marcobarba is a collaborative project initiated by Marco Barba and Stefano Menti, operating within the Menti Giovanni Winery in Gambellara, Veneto. The "Barbaboyz," as they are affectionately known, manage small plots of vineyards, practicing biodynamic viticulture with minimal intervention to produce authentic and natural wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region.

2022 Barbabolla
The 2022 Barbabolla is a semi-sparkling white wine crafted from a blend of native white grape varieties, predominantly Garganega, with additions of Trebbiano and other local varietals. The grapes are sourced from biodynamically farmed vineyards in the Veneto region. Fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks, followed by a second fermentation in the bottle initiated by the addition of dried grape juice. The wine is unfiltered, with no added sulfur dioxide, and is bottled under a crown cap without disgorgement, resulting in a naturally cloudy appearance.

Tasting Notes

  • Color: Hazy, straw-yellow hue with fine, persistent bubbles.
  • Aroma: Fresh citrus fruits, green apple, and floral notes, complemented by hints of yeast and minerality.
  • Palate: Zesty and refreshing, featuring flavors of lemon zest, pear, and a touch of almond, supported by vibrant acidity and a subtle effervescence.
  • Finish: Crisp and clean, with lingering notes of citrus and a pleasant mineral undertone.

Food Pairing
Barbabolla is an ideal aperitif and pairs wonderfully with light appetizers such as cicchetti (small bites) with prosciutto and gorgonzola, battered vegetables, or fried anchovies. These pairings highlight the wine's freshness and lively character, creating an enjoyable dining experience.
