Maison Taisne Riocour Blanc de Noirs

Maison Taisne Riocour Blanc de Noirs is a sparkling wine from France, specifically the Les Riceys commune within the Aube region of Champagne. Established in 1837, the maison is currently led by the five de Taisne siblings, who began bottling their own wines in 2014 to pay tribute to their parents, Angelito de Taisne and Claude de Riocour. Their winemaking philosophy focuses on revealing the unique character of the Les Riceys terroir, characterized by steep slopes and rocky Jurassic limestone marl.

Wine Description

This Champagne presents a brilliant light gold colour with a fine, persistent effervescence. The nose is complex and chiselled, opening with fleshy aromas of stone fruits like Mirabelle plum and peach, which transition into earthy notes of undergrowth, humus, and brown mushrooms. Secondary aromas include freshly baked pastries, candied orange peel, dried flowers, and a hint of sweet spice. On the palate, the wine is both tender and rigorous, offering a balanced profile of juicy red berry fruits and a distinct mineral tension derived from its limestone origins. It is a full-bodied Blanc de Noirs made from 100% Pinot Noir, sourced predominantly from celebrated vineyards such as Tronchois and Val Germain. The wine typically features an ABV of 12% to 12.5% with a low dosage of 3.5g/L. While the estate has held HVE Level 3 certification since 2016, it is currently in conversion to certified organic status, with biodynamic practices also being tested on certain parcels.

Food Pairing

The vinous and intense nature of this Blanc de Noirs allows it to pair exceptionally well with structured dishes. It is highly recommended with seafood such as baked oysters, razor clams with lemon and dill, or a fresh sea bream tartare. Its power also complements poultry dishes like Bresse chicken or roasted chicken with herbs. For more robust pairings, it can accompany beef tartare, cured meats, or aged cheeses like Grana Padano.

Vintage Quality

As a non-vintage (NV) blend, this wine typically incorporates around 10% reserve wines and spends three years ageing on the lees to ensure a consistent house style. The 2024 growing season in the Aube was exceptionally difficult due to record rainfall and catastrophic mildew outbreaks, which significantly reduced yields. In contrast, the 2025 vintage has been described as 'ideal' and 'easy', characterized by beautiful weather and healthy clusters that promise excellent quality despite a medium-sized crop.
