Les Fiefs de Lagrange 2016
Introduction
Les Fiefs de Lagrange 2016 is a red wine from France, produced in the Bordeaux region and the Saint-Julien appellation. It is the second wine of Château Lagrange, a Troisième Grand Cru Classé (Third Growth) estate. Created in 1983, the wine's production aims to increase the quality of the Grand Vin (first wine) through a more drastic selection of grapes. The wine is vinified from vines that are already 30 years old on average.
Wine Description
The wine has a deep ruby with purple highlights or a dark and purple colour. The aromatic profile is intense, with pure black cherry, crème de cassis, and crushed violets. Other aromas include cassis, ripe plum, black cherry, cedar, graphite, and a touch of menthol. The varietal composition is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, and 4% Petit Verdot. It is a medium-bodied wine. The palate is lively and fresh, with crisp acidity and a quite tensile mouthfeel. Flavours include blackcurrant, blackberry, and cherry, with notes of spice and tobacco. Stylistically, it is a vibrant, well balanced wine, showcasing polished, dense fruit character with appealing purity and freshness. The wine is matured for 13 months in barrels, 20% of which are new oak. The finish is long, with fruit, spice, and mineral lift. The ABV is 13.5%. The optimal drinking window is now to 2030, or 2021 to 2035. The wine is produced under sustainable practices.

Food Pairing
This wine is ideal with roast lamb with rosemary, entrecôte bordelaise, or duck breast with cherries. Suggested pairings also include venison stew, truffle risotto, aged Comté cheese, and mushroom ragout. The wine is also considered ideal with pork dishes, which will not diminish its elegance.
Vintage Quality
The 2016 vintage in Bordeaux was very successful, producing exceptional wines. The climatic conditions were marked by a mild and rainy spring, followed by a warm and dry summer. The late and long harvest, which took place from October 3rd to the 24th, allowed for optimal ripening.
