Laphroaig 34 Year Old Ian Hunter Story: Book 5 Single Malt Whisky
Introduction
Laphroaig 34 Year Old Ian Hunter Story: Book 5 is the final installment in the highly collectible Ian Hunter Story series, produced on the Isle of Islay, Scotland. This ultra-premium single malt pays tribute to Ian Hunter, the last member of the founding Johnston family to own and manage the distillery, who is credited with establishing Laphroaig's iconic profile and global reputation. 'Book 5', subtitled 'Enduring Spirit', serves as the culmination of this legacy, showcasing rare stocks distilled in 1987 and matured for over three decades in first-fill ex-Bourbon American oak barrels and Pedro Ximénez European oak hogheads.
Spirit Description
This whisky displays a deep, burnished copper colour. The nose is classic yet evolved, offering complex aromas of sweet bonfire smoke, iodine, and cured ham, interwoven with notes of beeswax, tropical fruit (grilled pineapple), and polished oak. On the palate, the body is oily and rich, delivering flavours of salted caramel, dark chocolate, and spicy white pepper, balanced by the signature medicinal peat reek which has softened over time. The finish is exceptionally long, dry, and resonant, leaving lingering traces of ash, sea salt, and old leather. It is bottled at 45.5% ABV.
