Lagg Small Batch Palo Cortado Single Malt Whisky
Introduction
Lagg Small Batch Palo Cortado Cask Finish is a peated single malt Scotch whisky produced on the Isle of Arran, off the west coast of Scotland. The spirit is crafted at the Lagg Distillery, which opened in 2019 at the southern tip of the island as the peated sister distillery to the well-established Lochranza Distillery. This expression is part of a limited small batch series designed to showcase the distillery's robust, smoky house style (using barley peated to 50ppm) matured in first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels and finished for six months in rare Palo Cortado Sherry casks.
Spirit Description
This whisky presents a warm, golden amber colour in the glass. The nose is complex and nutty, offering aromas of roasted hazelnuts and rich peat smoke interwoven with notes of caramelized figs, dried orange peel, and a hint of balsamic. On the palate, it is full-bodied and oily, delivering a sweet arrival of raisins and toffee that transitions into bold bonfire smoke, black pepper, and dried dates. The finish is long and warming, leaving lasting impressions of roasted nuts, gentle wood smoke, and a dry, tannic touch of dark chocolate. It is bottled at a natural cask strength of 56.2% ABV.
