Kujira Kyojin Single Grain Whisky - 700 ml
Kujira Kyojin (meaning "Giant Whale") is a unique single grain Japanese whisky from the Masahiro Shuzo Distillery in Okinawa. Established in 1883, Masahiro Shuzo is one of Okinawa’s oldest distilleries, originally famous for crafting Awamori (a traditional rice spirit). Kujira Kyojin represents the distillery's "Giant" step into the global whisky market, utilizing 100% premium Indica rice and black koji for fermentation. Because of Okinawa’s subtropical climate, the whisky matures much faster than its Scottish counterparts, allowing this 3-year-old expression to develop a depth and color usually associated with much older spirits.
Spirit Description
The whisky has a light amber color and is matured exclusively in Virgin American White Oak barrels. On the nose, it is highly aromatic and unconventional, leading with warm spices, white chocolate, and rich toasted nuts, balanced by vibrant tropical fruits and a subtle floral hint of rose. The palate is velvety and rich, dominated by dark chocolate and vanilla, followed by exotic fruits and a touch of baked fruitcake. The finish is warm, dry, and elegant, leaving a lingering impression of refined oak and sophisticated dark chocolate. It is bottled at 40% ABV.
