Kujira 25 Year Old Ryukyu Whisky is an ultra-rare, luxury spirit from the country of Japan, specifically the subtropical island of Okinawa. It is produced at the Masahiro Distillery, which was founded in 1883 and remains one of the oldest and largest distilleries in the Ryukyu Islands. Unlike traditional Japanese whiskies made from malted barley, Kujira is distilled from 100% premium Indica rice and fermented with Okinawa’s native black koji. This expression is a limited masterpiece hand-selected by Master Blender Arakaki Sunao from rare stocks matured for over a quarter-century.
Spirit Description
This whisky is matured for at least 25 years in a combination of sherry, bourbon, and white oak casks. The subtropical climate of Okinawa facilitates a "rapid maturation" miracle, imbuing the spirit with an intensity and depth of flavour often associated with even older whiskies.
Colour: Deep amber, with no caramel colour added.
Aroma: The nose is complex and inviting, featuring the sweet bitterness of dark chocolate, floral notes, sweet coconut, and tropical fruits with a hint of aged leather.
Palate: Rich and multi-layered, the palate offers a majestic Oriental taste with notes of dark chocolate, dried fruits, citrus, and vanilla. Subtle sweetness and hints of sandalwood and white oak add significant depth.
Finish: A warm, gentle, and harmonious finish that lingers in the mouth with traces of spice, dried fruit, and a touch of smokiness.
ABV: Bottled at 43% ABV.
