Kavalan Solist Port Cask is a high-intensity single malt whisky from the Yilan County of Taiwan. Produced by the King Car Distillery, this expression is fully matured in Portuguese Port barriques (fortified wine casks) in Taiwan’s unique subtropical climate. The extreme heat and humidity of the region act as a catalyst for maturation, allowing the spirit to extract deep, concentrated fruit and wood characters far more rapidly than in traditional whisky-producing regions. As part of the "Solist" series, each bottle is a single-cask, cask-strength release, meaning every batch offers a unique "solo" performance of the distillery's craftsmanship.
Spirit Description
This whisky displays a striking deep ruby or charred mahogany colour. The nose is rich and opulent, bursting with aromas of plum, blueberry, blackberry, and strawberry, underscored by a decadent layer of dark chocolate and roasted nuts. On the palate, the texture is viscous and "treacle-thick," delivering a bold explosion of stewed red fruits, citrus zest, and quality cocoa, balanced by the elegant wood spices of American oak. The finish is exceptionally long and warming, leaving a lingering aftertaste of burnt sugar, cinnamon, and a vinous Port dryness. It is bottled at a natural cask strength, typically ranging between 57.1% and 59.4% ABV.
