Wine Description
The Gran Faustino Gran Reserva 1955 presents a bright, orangey-ruby colour with reddish flecks. The sensory profile is exceptionally intense and complex, featuring a bouquet reminiscent of a spice shop with notes of turmeric, bay leaf, and coriander, alongside sweet hints of dried fruits such as plums, raisins, and figs. On the palate, the wine is dry and medium-bodied, showcasing a silky, enveloping texture with polished, round tannins and high acidity that serves as the wine's structural backbone. It is characterized by tertiary flavours of tobacco leaves, honey, almonds, and marzipan, with a finish that reveals nuances of olive wood. This blend is composed primarily of Tempranillo mixed with other traditional Rioja varieties and has an ABV of 13%. The wine was aged mostly in American oak barrels with a small proportion of French oak, which was considered innovative for the region at that time.
