Gaja Barbaresco 2000 - 1.5 Litre Bottle

Gaja Barbaresco 2000 is an iconic red wine from the Piedmont region of Italy, crafted by the legendary Angelo Gaja. Angelo Gaja is widely credited with modernizing Italian viticulture, being among the first in the region to introduce single-vineyard bottlings and French oak barriques. This flagship DOCG wine is produced from 100% Nebbiolo grapes sourced from fourteen different estate vineyards located in the communes of Barbaresco and Treiso. The winemaking philosophy emphasizes a meticulous "parcel-by-parcel" approach to faithfully express the unique limestone-rich terroir of the Langhe district.

Wine Description

This vintage possesses a deep garnet-red colour with early amber edges at the rim. The nose is expansive and complex, unravelling layers of dried cherries, plums, and raspberries, intertwined with notes of liquorice, cloves, tobacco, and cedar. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and powerful yet remarkably refined, featuring ultra-fine, integrated tannins and a racy acidity that provides a long, mineral-inflected finish. Stylistically, it balances a lush, ripe fruit profile with traditional savory elements of tar, smoke, and underbrush. The maturation process involved 24 months in barriques followed by 12 months in large Slavonian oak casks. While drinking beautifully now, it has a long life ahead, with an optimal drinking window extending toward 2030 and beyond.
