Francois Mikulski Meursault Pre de Manche 2023

Introduction

This white wine originates from France, specifically the Burgundy region, within the Côte de Beaune subregion and the Meursault appellation. The history of Domaine François Mikulski began in 1992 when François Mikulski and his wife Marie-Pierre founded the estate, building on the viticultural knowledge François gained from his uncle. Their winemaking philosophy is rooted in authenticity, elegance, and purity, emphasising the health of the vineyard and the expression of the terroir. The domaine manages its vines, mainly in Meursault, with non-certified organic farming practices, using home-produced composts and ploughing the soil. The vineyard 'Pré de Manchet' (sometimes noted as 'Le Pré de Manche') is located high on the Meursault hillside, known for its shallow, stony, and very mineral soil.

Wine Description

The wine is 100% Chardonnay. It typically presents with a brilliant light gold colour, often with slight green highlights. The aroma is complex and evolving, with notes of white fruits like pear, white peach, and apple, intermingled with vanilla, lactic notes, small white flowers, and citrus. Further exploration may reveal hints of almond, cane sugar, honey, and sophisticated spices. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, fleshy, and generous, showing layered flavours of ripe fruit, often including pear coulis, apricot, mango, and citrus. It is known for its incredible freshness, minerality, and dynamic zing from the citrus notes. The finish is long and persistent, taut like a bow, supported by a fresh, defined mineral structure. The ABV is approximately 13.5%. Domaine François Mikulski practices organic farming, although the winery may not hold a formal certification. The wine is structured with excellent balance, concentration, and a seductive length. The youthful character is expected to persist for a number of years, suggesting an optimal drinking window after six or seven years of cellaring.
