Elk Cove Vineyards Pinot Noir La Boheme 2023
Elk Cove Vineyards Pinot Noir La Boheme originates from the United States, within the Yamhill-Carlton subregion of the Willamette Valley in Oregon. Founded in 1974 by Pat and Joe Campbell, Elk Cove is among the state's oldest wine producers. The La Boheme vineyard was planted in 1985 on a picturesque site rising to 800 feet, making it one of the highest elevation vineyard sites in the valley. It was named after both the family who previously owned the property and the founders' favourite Puccini opera. Today, the winery is led by second-generation winemaker Adam Campbell, who maintains a philosophy that combines art and science with a focus on estate-grown, cool-climate fruit.
Wine Description
This Pinot Noir is known for a silky, lush, and sophisticated profile. In the glass, it typically presents a medium ruby to ruby-purple colour. The aromatic bouquet is deep and layered, offering scents of black cherry, raspberry, and strawberry, accented by forest floor, cedarwood, mushroom powder, and lavender. On the palate, it is medium to full bodied with a highly concentrated and detailed flavour profile including Damson plum, boysenberry, and toasted marshmallow. The structure is defined by muscular or baritone tannins and bright, energetic acidity, leading to a long finish with lingering notes of spicy cocoa, star anise, and minerals.
Varietal Composition: 100% Pinot Noir, primarily the Pommard clone.
ABV: Recorded at 14.2% for recent vintages.
Ageing: Matured for 10 months in French oak barrels (approximately 28% to 29% new oak).
Organic Status: While the winery uses sustainable farming practices, this specific wine is not certified organic.
