Domaine Michel Gros Echezeaux 'Les Loachausses' Grand Cru 2022

Domaine Michel Gros, established in 1979, is a renowned family-owned winery located in Vosne-Romanée, within Burgundy's esteemed Côte de Nuits region. The Gros family has been cultivating vineyards in the area since the 19th century, with Michel Gros representing the sixth generation of winemakers. The estate is celebrated for its dedication to traditional viticulture and meticulous winemaking practices, resulting in wines of exceptional quality and character.

Wine Description

The 2022 Echezeaux 'Les Loachausses' Grand Cru is the inaugural release from a 0.38-hectare parcel previously managed by Gros Frère & Soeur, now under the stewardship of Michel Gros. This 100% Pinot Noir wine showcases a vibrant garnet hue. On the nose, it reveals an expressive bouquet of red berry fruits, Japanese yuzu, Seville orange marmalade, and subtle forest floor nuances. The palate is smooth and harmonious, offering plush textures with a toasty finish attributed to its maturation in 100% new oak. The wine's ample body and silky tannins are balanced by a lively acidity, culminating in a long, sumptuous finish. While approachable in its youth, this wine will benefit from several years of cellaring to fully integrate its oak components and develop further complexity.

Accolades

  • Vinous - 93-95 points.
  • Burghound - 92-94 points.

Food Pairing

This elegant Grand Cru pairs excellently with:

  • Roasted duck breast with a cherry glaze.
  • Wild mushroom risotto.
  • Aged Comté cheese.
