Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2023
1. Introduction
This fine red wine originates from France, specifically the Burgundy region, in the Côte de Nuits subregion and the Grand Cru appellation of Clos de la Roche. Domaine Dujac, situated in Morey Saint Denis, was established in 1967 when Jacques Seysses transitioned from a banking career to winemaking. The estate now spans nearly 12 hectares and boasts prime old-vine parcels in Clos de la Roche, one of the most profound and long lived sites in the Côte de Nuits. The winemaking philosophy centres on achieving aromatic lift using whole clusters, intensity from low yields, and a remarkable balance between elegance and structure.
2. Wine Description
The 2023 Clos de la Roche presents an impressive deep ruby purple colour. The aroma is utterly refined and offers a rich, extravagant constellation of red plums, redcurrant, and red and black cherry notes, complemented by rose petal, potpourri, graphite, and subtle spice. On the palate, the wine combines richness with precision, showing a dense core of fruit that is beautifully judged. It is a lavish and sensual wine, featuring plush, fine grained, and feisty tannins, with a fine bead of acidity that ensures a great sense of freshness and balance. The wine is full bodied and the finish is long, mineral driven, and complex, with an almost crystalline quality.
The wine is 100% Pinot Noir. The optimal drinking window is suggested to be from 2030–2050, or from 2040–2100 according to some critics. The farming practice at Domaine Dujac is organic.
