Domaine Dujac Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru 2023
Introduction
This profound red wine comes from France, specifically the Burgundy region, in the Côte de Nuits subregion, from the Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru appellation in Gevrey-Chambertin. Domaine Dujac, one of the Côte de Nuits' most respected estates, was founded in 1968 by Jacques Seysses. The estate is now led by the second generation and is celebrated for its commitment to responsible vineyard techniques, including organic and biodynamic practices. The winery is known for crafting elegant, sensual, and profound Pinot Noir, using whole clusters and native yeasts to achieve aromatic lift and structural depth. The grapes for this wine come from plots in both Charmes and Mazoyères-Chambertin.
Wine Description
The 2023 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru shows a fine, deep crimson purple colour. It presents a stunningly inviting and generous bouquet, with an appealing purity of fruit. The nose is full of energy, offering a blend of red and black plums, dark strawberry, black cherry, raspberry, licorice, raw cocoa, gamebird, and hints of cedary oak. The wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, vibrant, and silky. It possesses fine-boned tannins and a beguiling balance, leading to a long, sensual, and complex finish with a great sense of soil transparency. It is a wine of perfumed richness and finesse that captures the power of Gevrey-Chambertin. The grapes are vinified with little or no destemming (up to 100% whole clusters depending on the vintage) and aged for 14 to 18 months in oak barrels, with a significant proportion of new wood. The vineyard is certified organic.
