Dezzani Barolo 2019

Introduction

Dezzani Barolo originates from the Langhe area of the Piedmont region in northern Italy. The winery was founded in 1934 by Luigi Dezzani and is located in the village of Cocconato d'Asti, an area historically celebrated for its beneficial microclimate. The winemaking philosophy at Dezzani emphasizes a deep respect for Piedmontese varietals and traditional techniques, a commitment that saw the estate flourish into one of the region's most significant producers under the leadership of Romolo Dezzani during the late 20th century.

Wine Description

This Barolo presents a classic red garnet colour. The sensory profile is complex and elegant, offering a nose that ranges from ripe red fruits and raspberry to spicy notes of cinnamon and vanilla, underscored by traditional hints of toast, tar, and violet. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and dry with a velvety texture and firm, austere tannins that provide excellent structure. This 100% Nebbiolo is a blend of the Michet, Lampia, and Rose clones and typically possesses an ABV of 14% to 14.5%. The winemaking process includes 30 to 38 months of aging, with at least 18 to 24 months spent in large oak barrels to ensure a well-balanced finish.

Food Pairing

The powerful structure and tannic grip of this Barolo make it a natural companion for hearty, protein-rich dishes such as braised veal, baked beef shank, or roasted lamb with potatoes. Its earthy undertones of tar and spices also pair beautifully with game meats like venison and wild boar, as well as rich truffle-based risottos and mushroom stews. For a cheese course, it harmonizes well with matured or hard Italian cheeses such as Castelmagno, Gorgonzola, or Parmigiano-Reggiano.
