Delamotte Blanc De Blancs
This elegant and mineral-driven Champagne originates from France, specifically from the legendary Côte des Blancs subregion. Founded in 1760, Delamotte is one of the five oldest houses in Champagne and is the "sister house" to the prestigious Salon; in years when Salon does not declare a vintage, its prized fruit is often declassified into Delamotte’s blends. The winemaking philosophy centers on "absolute purity," using only Grand Cru Chardonnay from the villages of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize, and Oger. To preserve its fresh, chalky character, the wine is fermented entirely in stainless steel tanks, avoiding oak to let the terroir shine.
Wine Description
Delamotte Blanc de Blancs NV presents a pale gold colour with a fine, persistent mousse. The sensory profile is high-toned and "racy," featuring an aromatic nose of citrus zest, green apple, and white flowers, layered with sophisticated notes of freshly baked bread, brioche, and flinty minerals. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied showcasing a fleshy core of fruit; lemon and pear underpinned by a sharp, saline acidity. It is characterized by its remarkable "chalky" texture, a result of the vines growing in pure limestone soil and an extended maturation on the lees for four to five years. This 100% Chardonnay typically reaches an ABV of 12% with a modest dosage (around 7 g/L) to maintain its dry, "incisive" finish.
