Chateau Pontet Canet 2004
Introduction
Chateau Pontet Canet 2004 is a red wine from the Pauillac appellation on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, France. Classified as a Fifth Growth in the 1855 Classification, the estate was founded in the early 18th century by Jean-François de Pontet and remained in the hands of only three families over three centuries. Under the current ownership of the Tesseron family, the winery has pioneered a philosophy of minimal intervention, with proprietor Alfred Tesseron and estate manager Jean-Michel Comme famously transitioning the property to biodynamic farming starting with trials in 2004.
Wine Description
This wine displays a deep inky purple to blue hue. The complex sensory profile features intense aromas of crème de cassis, blackberry, and black plum, layered with notes of cedar, incense, spice box, and spring flowers. On the palate, it is medium to full bodied and powerfully structured, offering flavours of blueberry, bilberry, and liquorice alongside hints of mint and graphite. The wine is characterized by superb tension and dense, tightly coiled tannins that lead to a long, caressing finish. This blend is composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, with an ABV of 13%.
