Chateau Noaillac 2016

Introduction

Chateau Noaillac is a red wine from France, specifically the Bordeaux region, within the subregion of Médoc. The estate, located in the far north of the appellation, was purchased in 1983 by the current owners, the Pages family. The family realized the soil in this northerly part of the Médoc had once produced excellent wines, despite the land having been abandoned. The winery, which is also run by Marc Pages's grandson, Damien Pages, has earned a reputation for its attentive winemaking and sustainable practices. The estate spans 113 acres with limestone and clay soils that are ideal for grape growing.

Wine Description

This wine is a Bordeaux Blend Red, typically made from a combination of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot. A common blend is 55 percent Merlot, 40 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5 percent Petit Verdot, though some vintages show a greater proportion of Merlot. The wine is a rich ruby hue. The aroma bursts with ripe blackcurrant, blackberry, and delicate undertones of vanilla and cedar, or notes of black fruits, spices, and cedar. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with concentrated dark fruit flavours, revealing notes of strawberry, fleshy plum, cassis, and sweet spices. The style is often classic and harmonious, with a pleasing balance, and integrated, fine-grained, smooth tannins. The finish is long and fruity with a lingering aftertaste. The wine is often aged for 12 months in French Oak barrels. The Alcohol By Volume (ABV) is approximately 13 percent to 13.5 percent. The wine is designated as Sustainable and was promoted to Cru Bourgeois Supérieur status with the 2025 classification.
