Chateau Mouton Rothschild 2012
Introduction
Chateau Mouton Rothschild 2012 is a prestigious First Growth red wine from the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux, France. This vintage marks a historical milestone for the estate as the first to be vinified in the winery's newly constructed, state-of-the-art gravity-feed vat room. The estate's destiny was shaped by Baron Philippe de Rothschild and his daughter Baroness Philippine; today, it is managed by her three children: Camille Sereys de Rothschild, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild. Following the tradition started in 1945, the 2012 label features original artwork, this year by Catalan artist Miquel Barceló, depicting two rams in a symmetrical fresco that symbolizes the balance and harmony achieved through human craftsmanship.
Wine Description
The 2012 vintage presents a dense, opaque, and almost black colour with a brilliant glint. The complex and refined nose offers primary aromas of cassis, blackcurrant, and crushed blackberry, which evolve with aeration to reveal sophisticated notes of cigar box, graphite, and spice. On the palate, the wine is full bodied and substantial, characterized by mature, crisp tannins and a dense body that displays flavours of chocolate and vanilla. It is noted for its "irrepressible panache" and a long, fresh, mineral finish. The varietal composition is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. While opulent and showy in its youth, it has the tannic architecture to age gracefully for 25 to 30 years, with an optimal drinking window extending to 2045.
