Charles Heidseick Rose Reserve

Introduction

This distinguished Champagne is crafted by the historic House of Charles Heidsieck in Reims, founded in 1851 by the legendary Charles-Camille Heidsieck—known famously as "Champagne Charlie." The winery is celebrated for its uncompromising commitment to quality and its vast collection of reserve wines, housed in thousand-year-old Gallo-Roman chalk cellars (Crayères). The Rosé Réserve is a masterful blend that mirrors the complexity of the House's flagship Brut Réserve, but with the addition of high-quality red wines from the prestigious Pinot Noir terroirs of Les Riceys. This cuvée highlights the House’s philosophy of "Complexity, Precision, and Generosity," achieved through significantly longer aging than the region's standards.

Wine Description

Charles Heidsieck Rosé Réserve displays a sophisticated powdery pink robe with luminous glints of wild rose and a fine, persistent mousse. The nose is highly aromatic and nuanced, opening with fragrances of home-made strawberry jam and vineyard peach, which gradually evolve into warm, velvety notes of gingerbread, cinnamon, and honey. On the palate, the wine is powerful yet elegant, offering a burst of red forest fruits—raspberry, strawberry, and blackberry—nestled in a creamy, "velvety whipped cream" texture. It is characterized by a bright seam of acidity and a savory, mineral finish with a hint of smoky spice. This blend of 40% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay, and 25% Meunier includes a high proportion of reserve wines (up to 35%) and has an ABV of 12%. It was aged for over 48 months on the lees in the chalk cellars and finished with a dosage of approximately 9–11g/L. The wine is ready to drink now but will continue to gain aromatic finesse through 2030.
