Casanova Di Neri Cabernet Sauvignon 'Pietradonice' 2022
This rare and 'extraordinary' red wine originates from Italy, within the Toscana I.G.P. designation. Produced by the legendary Casanova di Neri estate in Montalcino, Pietradonice is the result of Giacomo Neri’s vision to plant Cabernet Sauvignon in a unique vineyard site characterized by soil rich in 'onyx stones'. The winery's philosophy centres on the belief that this specific terroir in the southeastern part of Montalcino is as perfectly suited for Cabernet Sauvignon as other areas are for Sangiovese, creating a wine that balances international varietal character with a distinct Tuscan soul.
Wine Description
The 2022 Casanova di Neri Pietradonice presents an intense, deep, and brilliant red colour. The sensory profile is exceptionally complex, featuring a nose of blackcurrant, blackberry, and dark plum layered with spicy notes of tobacco, cedar, and a hint of balsamic. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and 'powerful', showcasing a massive concentration of dark fruit underpinned by a distinct mineral edge derived from its stony soils. It is characterized by its broad, velvety tannins and a dense texture that leads to a persistent and deeply elegant finish. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon reached an alcohol content (ABV) of 14.5% and was matured for approximately 18 months in French oak barrels before a further period of refinement in the bottle. While the estate manages its land with a deep respect for natural balance, this bottling is not officially certified organic.
