Casa Silva S7 Carmenere 2023

Introduction

Casa Silva S7 Carmenere is a bold red wine from the Los Lingues vineyard in the Colchagua Valley of Chile. The Silva family's winemaking heritage dates back to 1892 when Emilio Bouchon arrived from Bordeaux, though the winery was officially founded under its own label in 1997. Viña Casa Silva follows a winemaking philosophy that prioritizes innovation and research, particularly into Carmenere clones and microterroirs, to authentically express the unique potential of the Chilean landscape.

Wine Description

This 100% Carmenere is a single-block selection from a 4.8-hectare parcel planted in 1997 at the foot of the Andes Mountains. It presents a deep ruby colour with a violet rim. The aromatic profile is powerful and dense, featuring notes of black currants, black plums, and black cherries intertwined with mocha, cocoa, tobacco, and spicy hints of nutmeg and cardamom. On the palate, the wine is ripe and structured with a silky texture and well integrated, velvety tannins. It offers rich flavours of boysenberry and forest fruits alongside an herbal background of bay leaf and menthol. The finish is long, layered, and elegant, marked by balsamic acidity and spicy touches of black pepper and chocolate.
