Domaine Jean Fery Hautes Cotes de Beaune 'La Come des Amoureuses' 2023
Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune 'La Come des Amoureuses' 2023 is a rare, single-parcel white wine from the elevated vineyards connecting the villages of Pernand-Vergelesses and Échevronne in the Côte de Beaune.
Produced by Domaine Jean Féry & Fils, this cuvée is a small-production 'hidden gem', with only 5,468 bottles produced for the 2023 vintage. The estate, led by Jean-Louis Féry since the late 1980s, has deep roots in Burgundy dating back to the 18th century. The winery's philosophy is centred on artisanal, minimal-intervention viticulture, having achieved official organic certification in 2011 and incorporating biodynamic practices guided by the lunar calendar.
Wine Description
This 100% Chardonnay presents a pale, lively yellow colour. The aromatic profile is fresh and complex, featuring notes of green apple, fresh peach, and citrus, underpinned by a subtle toasted background and a dominant flinty or 'wet stone' minerality. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and expressive, offering a refined interplay of creamy citrus and a light chalky grip. It is characterized by its tension, purity, and a long finish that suggests a delicate touch of oak spice.
The 2023 vintage is an assemblage of three distinct high-altitude climates: 'La Petite Heulée' and 'Les Pins' provide tension and depth, while 'Les Larrets' adds structure and finesse. The grapes were hand-harvested and placed in small crates to preserve fruit integrity. Following pneumatic pressing, the juice was fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for 13 to 18 months in a combination of 228L and 400L French oak barrels (20% new), oak foudres from Stockinger, and ceramic amphorae. This wine has an ABV of 13.3%.
Food Pairing
The vibrant acidity and textured profile of this Hautes Côtes de Beaune make it an excellent gastronimic partner for roast chicken and a variety of poultry dishes. It also pairs elegantly with white fish, dishes served in creamy sauces, and seafood.
Vintage Quality
The 2023 vintage in Burgundy is recognized for favourable weather conditions that allowed for excellent concentration of the grapes. The season resulted in wines that maintain a high degree of freshness and liveliness, showing great potential for the regional Hautes Côtes de Beaune appellation.
