Bouchard Pere & Fils Clos De La Mousse Premier Cru 2022
The history of 'Clos de la Mousse' is ancient, with the oldest trace dating back to 1220. At that time, it was bequeathed to the chapter of Notre-Dame de Beaune. The vineyard was fragmented during the French Revolution, but the Bouchard family, driven by the desire to build an exceptional estate since their founding in 1731, gradually reassembled the entire plot in the 19th century, with the final acquisition occurring in 1872. Bouchard Père & Fils' winemaking philosophy is guided by their cellar master's motto of 'no rules,' preferring to adapt to each terroir and vintage to coax out the purest expression and finest emotions.
Wine Description
This Premier Cru is made exclusively from the Pinot Noir grape variety. It displays a superb, deep, and bright red colour with brilliant highlights.
On the nose, it conveys a powerful expression of red fruit—mellow yet jammy, fresh yet very ripe—combined with fruit aromas and subtle toasted notes. The palate offers a fleshy and delicate attack that is particularly charming. It is both fleshy and refined, revealing its charms with delicacy. The tannins are present yet refined, expressing the high maturity of the plot. The complex finish is a revelation, with a resurgence of wild fruit aromas, smoothness, and a saline quality that imparts a crisp, fresh impression. The long ageing potential is notable, generally ranging from 7 to 10 years and more.
93 Points - Wine Spectator: This aromatic red evokes sandalwood, juniper, tomato leaf, incense and ripe cherry and currant flavors. Lithe and linear, with a firm line of acidity and tannins driving the persistent finish. Shows lovely harmony and a gossamer texture. Drink now through 2040.
