Bouchard Pere & Fils Chambertin 'Clos De Beze' Grand Cru 2020
Bouchard Père & Fils Chambertin 'Clos de Bèze' Grand Cru 2020 is a profound red wine from France, produced in the Gevrey Chambertin village at the northern end of the Côte de Nuits. Founded in 1731 by Michel Bouchard, the house is one of Burgundy's oldest wine-merchant families and is currently the largest owner of Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards across the Côte d'Or. The winery's philosophy is rooted in a 'quest for excellence', combining nearly three centuries of tradition with modern sustainable practices to create an authentic expression of its historic terroirs.
Wine Description
This 2020 vintage presents a dark ruby red colour and a racy nose defined by aromas of currant, raspberry, and cherry stone mixed with woody, toasted notes and floral wisps. On the palate, the wine is round, rich, and elegantly structured, showcasing flavours of cherry, strawberry, and plum complemented by spicy accents of clove and a hint of graphite. It is 100% Pinot Noir, sourced from a prestigious 14.53-hectare plot where brown chalk and calcareous clay soils provide a solid base for its distinguished tannins. Stylistically, it is noted for its suave intensity and 'sappy' dry extract, which balances a firm tannic spine and leads to a long, persistent finish marked by minerality and finesse. While showing great energy now, it has an optimal drinking window of 15 to 20 years or more.
Accolades
95 Points - Wine Spectator: This round, supple red focuses on the fruit, with cherry and strawberry notes, plus floral and spice accents. Shows a solid base of tannins, which lend support and gain presence as this winds down on the finish. Tips toward the tannins, and is less forthcoming than many 2020s at this stage, with plenty of energy and fine potential. Best from 2027 through 2048.
Food Pairing
This Grand Cru serves as a famous companion to roasted duck, beef tenderloin, and game birds. Its complex structure also pairs beautifully with mushroom-based sauces or aged cheeses such as Époisses, Comté, or Gruyère. Together, they create an unforgettable dining experience.
