Bodegas El Nido 'Clio' 2023

This powerful and structured red wine originates from Spain, specifically from the Jumilla D.O. appellation in the Levante region. Bodegas El Nido is a joint project between the Gil family, famed importer Jorge Ordóñez, and renowned Australian winemaker Chris Ringland. The winery's philosophy is rooted in a vision established over a century ago: to showcase the exceptional quality of Jumilla by balancing the bold, sweet fruit of old-vine Monastrell with the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon. Sourced from the Valle de la Aragona, the vineyard's high altitude and long growing season contribute significant freshness and bright fruit energy to their flagship labels.

Wine Description

The Bodegas El Nido Clio presents a beautiful cherry red colour with elegant garnet edges. The sensory profile is intense and complex, featuring a nose of plum, blackberry, and blueberries, complemented by savory notes of thyme, black pepper, and mint. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and creamy, showcasing rich fruit complexity, licorice, and cocoa underpinned by delicate tannins. It is characterized by an 'impetuous' yet elegant style, with a finish currently dominated by spicy oak flavours that will continue to integrate with time. This blend is composed of 70% Monastrell from very old vines and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon planted in 1986. Matured for 23 months in new French and American oak barrels, the wine reached an alcohol content (ABV) of 15%. This vintage is certified organic, made with grapes certified by the Consejo de Agricultura Ecológica de la Región de Murcia.
