Blindman Lightshadows - 30 Litre Keg
Lightshadows is the "little sibling" to the legendary Longshadows IPA from Lacombe’s Blindman Brewing. It was born out of a desire to capture the intense, modern hop profile of a heavy-hitting IPA but in a "Small IPA" (or Session IPA) format. It is designed specifically for those who want the aromatic complexity of a craft flagship without the high alcohol content, making it one of the most flavor-dense "light" beers in Alberta.
Beer Description
This Small IPA pours a hazy, pale lemon-gold with a surprisingly thick, frothy white head for its lower gravity.
Aroma: Despite its low ABV, the nose is punchy and vibrant. It leads with a bright burst of lemon-lime zest and white grapefruit, followed by softer notes of ripe pineapple and a subtle piney dankness. It smells significantly "bigger" than it actually is.
Palate: On the tongue, it is light-bodied but avoids feeling thin or watery. It leads with a very lean, crackery malt base that serves as a clean canvas for the hops. The flavor profile is dominated by citrus pith and tropical fruit, finishing with a crisp, snappy bitterness that is assertive but balanced.
Profile: It has a highly sessionable ABV of 4.5% and a moderate bitterness. It is engineered for maximum "crushability" while maintaining a sophisticated hop presence.
Technical Notes: Blindman achieves the body of this beer through a clever use of flaked oats and wheat, which provides a silky mouthfeel and helps the beer retain its signature haze. It is heavily dry-hopped with the same premium varieties found in its bigger siblings (often Citra, Mosaic, or Simcoe), ensuring that the "shadow" of the hops remains long even in a lighter frame.
